We are a small group of ladies who create shawls, baby blankets and chemo caps for hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice houses for those in need of comfort due to age, illness. Baby items are donated to hospitals and pregnancy centers. We also provide knit goods for the Christmas Faire. Many of the members are also the makers of the holiday wreaths sold at the Faire. We meet weekly on Thursdays after the 9:00 am Mass at St. Athanasius Church.
Care and the love of knitting (and crochet) have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace to members of the parish who are sick or homebound. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl. The knitter begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When the shawl is completed it is offered a final blessing before being sent along its way.

We have an Annual Blessing of shawls, blankets and chemo hats in February in conjunction with World Day of the Sick, an observation introduced by Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. World Day of the Sick falls on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, and it is an important occasion for individuals to reflect on caring for those who are sick as well as those who care for them.
